A Warm Welcome Awaits

Dear Colleagues
I am honored to have an opportunity to contribute a few words for this
historic edition of V-Star, which rightly celebrates the milestones and
achievements of Vistara over the last decade. The imagery and
recollections in the preceding pages capture well the journey and
many successes. Moreso, they convey the pride and spirit that have
made it all possible.
Vistara’s growth over the past decade has been wonderful to watch, for
many reasons. One is quite personal: shortly after my friend Yeoh
PheeTeik was appointed to helm what would become Vistara, he asked
me to share some learnings and airline-startup checklists gleaned from
having recently started Singapore Airlines’ low-cost carrier, Scoot.
I was, of course, happy to do so, and whether these were of any value
is irrelevant to what he, you, and the thousands of other Vistarans
have since achieved. This small involvement in Vistara’s gestation has
nevertheless imbued a personal connection that, ten years hence,
heightens the sense of responsibility to now carry forward what has
made Vistara great.
For while Vistara’s journey over the last decade has been remarkable,
it is now a chapter in a much larger, longer story. What Vistara has
created now gets to play, as part of the new Air India, on a dramatically
bigger global stage.
Our new airline, with a fleet nearing 300 aircraft and an orderbook of
many hundreds more, draws from the best of all its antecedents, and
carries the DNA of each one of us. As the tagline says, the new future
offers almost limitless possibilities and incredible potential.
So, while we acknowledge and celebrate the story so far, let’s also look
forward to writing new chapters together, as to seizing this rare and
exciting opportunity to continue building an airline that proudly
represents the nation whose name it carries.
